How to Mod

August 28, 2026

Hi again

I won't be dictating how any community or mods sets up their checklists for the games they love. this is more just a general guideline to help, if needed.

What do mods do?

the whole point of being a mod for a game is just being able to participate in 100% checklist setup and editing for a game. you won't have to approve or do any ongoing work, it can be a one-and-done setup.

Why mod?

any checklists you set up are massively helpful for gamers all around the world.

you'll also be able to link your youtube or twitch in your profile. if someone sees you as a mod on a game, they can click your username and find a link to a social of your choice.

When to use spoiler tags

keep in mind, many people using this site will be doing a blind playthrough, and they'll want to keep it spoiler free. however, that's not totally possible while setting up checklists.

naturally, it will spoil things like how many dungeons or bosses, how many items, etc. but you can still keep it a surprise what those dungeons, bosses, or items are.

In this example here, I didn't bother hiding Shield and Sword because they were pretty obvious for a Zelda game.

I didn't hide the first couple of shop items, because they're immediately available, so it's not really going to be a surprise to anyone.

there is another shop item that shows up later in the game, I felt like they can discover that on their own, so I hid it.

and for other items on the list, I decided to keep them hidden behind a spoiler tag, because some users might want to be surprised by what items are hidden in the dungeons. I even named them "Item 7, Item 8" and they'll only see what the item is once they've clicked on reveal spoiler. Link's Awakening DX is decently linear, so that was easy to set up.

You can reference this one, if it helps: https://hundowiki.com/games/legend-of-zelda-links-awakening-dx

as you can see, it's a bit of a mental game trying to work out what to show, what not to. nobody expects perfection, it's just about helping people.

you don't have to be too picky. just build it how you think you'd like it if you were avoiding heavy spoilers.

Missable checklist items

if something in the game is permanently missable and counts towards 100%, be sure to mark it as missable. you can use the window field to tell them when to to get the item so they don't miss it.

I was pretty vague about it in mine, to continue with the spoiler-free mindset.

Optional checklist items

there are some things that are considered debatable whether they count towards 100%.

if you're not sure, or if you know it's not part of 100% but it's meaningful to completionists anyway, go ahead and add it as Optional.

Happy modding!

don't stress about it or take it too seriously, just think if you had a friend who was playing the game for their first time and they wanted a completion checklist, what would you set up for them?
